10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

We saw some superb movies like Pirates Of The Caribbean and Bahubaali 2 in the first half of 2017 but the bests are yet to come

Six months into 2017 and it already turns out to be an absolute crackerjack year for movies. While there were huge blockbusters like Bahubaali 2, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man Tell no Tales and Logan we also saw some non-mainstream films like Vikramadity Motwane’s Trapped, Konkona Sen Sharma’s Death in Gunj, M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and The Gifted to name a few. But a number of highly intriguing projects are yet to come in the next six months. Here is a list of 10 most anticipated movies in the second half of the year.

10. The Ring

Release Date: 11th August

The Ring is a Romantic Drama written and directed by Imtiaz Ali featuring Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. Also this is the first collaboration between Imtiaz Ali and superstar SRK and we cannot be more excited. Pritam who has made numerous chartbuster music for the director before will be composing music for this film as well. While Imtiaz’s last film Tamasha received largely positive responses let us hope that his teaming up with SRK will bring another masterpiece.

9. Secret Superstar

Director: Advait Chandan

Release Date: 4th August

Secret Superstar is about a small town girl who dreams of becoming a singer but do not have her parents’ support. The film features Amir Khan and Zaira Wasim, as the lead characters. Also it is produced by Amir Khan Productions, and if you are wondering why this film is on the list then please watch Dangal, Taare Zamien Par, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na or Delhi Belly one more time.

8. Thor: Ragnarok

Director: Taika Waititi

Release Date: 25th October (initial release)

Thor: Ragnarok became Marvel’s most viewed trailer ever within 24 hours of its release. It surely has us eager to see what Odinson and his “friend from work” are bringing to the big screen. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Golblum and obviously Mark Ruffalo the film is astoundingly colorful and is an unapologetically hardcore fantasy freakiness!

 

7. Murder on the Orient Express

Director: Kenneth Branagh

Release Date: 10th November

Murder on the Orient Express is the adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name. Hercule Poirot is one of the most beloved detectives around the world and it will be interesting to watch Kenneth Branagh bring this character to life. The film also features Penelop Cruz, Johnny Depp and Judi Dench.

6. Blade Runner 2049

Director: Dennis Villeneuve

Release Date: 6th October

Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel to the cult science-fiction movie Blade Runner. Dennis Villeneuve whose Arrival received critical acclaim has brilliantly revived the wet, smoke filled frames of the previous movie. The story is set 30 years after the events in Blade Runner and features Harrison Ford as Deckard who seems as fiercely determined as he was in the first film. The film also have Ryan Gosling as the main character and actors like Robin Wright and Jared Leto to back him up. The newly launched trailer already has us brimming with excitement.

 

5. Justice League

Director: Zack Snyder

Release Date: November

Superheroes team up as Bruce Wayne fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act seeks to recruit more metahumans to defend our planet. The film has Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash- all together. Still wondering why to anticipate?!

4. Battle of The Sexes

Director: Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris

Release Date: September

Battle of Sexes is an American comedy drama film starring Emma Stone (as Billie Jean King) and Steve Carell (as Bobby Riggs). It is the true story of the 1973 Tennis match between the World number one Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs which became the most watched sports event of all time. Billed the ‘Battle of Sexes’, Riggs vs. King sparked a national debate and became a surprisingly important issue in the feminist movement. This sensational event is now being recreated by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris the makers of Little Miss Sunshine and you can bet that the face-off between the “male chauvinist pig vs. hairy legged feminist” is going to be a pleasant surprise of the year.

 

3. Jagga Jasoos

Director: Anurag Basu

Release Date: 14th July

This Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer is a musical comedy with live animation. The trailer already gives out feels of Barfi and promises an Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani kinda chemistry between the leads. The film also features Saswata Chatterjee and Saurabh Shukla. The making of the film took an incredibly long time but let us hope this combination of Disney and Bollywood will not disappoint us.

2. Spider-Man: The Homecoming

Director: Jon Watts

Release Date: 7th July

Okay, so the film has Robert Downey Jr, former Batman Michael Keaton and it is a Spider-Man movie people! What else do you need?!

1. Dunkirk

Director: Christopher Nolan

Release Date: 21st July

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk has generated a lot of buzz in the social media. The film tells the story of the rescue of 30,000 allied soldiers who were pinned down by the Nazi troops on the French coast in 1940. Christopher Nolan is one of the finest film makers of our generation and his movies have always been highly anticipated throughout the globe. With Dunkirk, Nolan seems to have stepped out of the science fiction genre and the film undoubtedly is going to be yet another instance of Nolan’s genius.
